Shows a crowd of people around their original food truck

We started out as a food truck.

Our food truck launched on Matariki 2022. We were curious if a business model like ours (one that focuses on accessibility) could work. We knew that the only way it would is if hundreds of people would turn up to buy $4 meals. We hoped some people would pay extra, and some people would take free meals & desserts too. At least 300 people turned up on our opening night, and we averaged around 300 people each night at the food truck. To our surprise, it worked.

Employees and volunteers cheering inside the eatery

We quickly outgrew the food truck.

The two of us (our names are Liam & Jackie) prepped all the food in our wee truck, and a friend would help us fill people's bowls during dinner service. We quickly realised that we wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand. We'd need a team and a proper kitchen. So, on February 24th 2023, we opened our community eatery in Caversham, Dunedin. As we write this in July, we have a team of 12. On average, we all share about 700 meals, 500 desserts, and 100 drinks each night we're open. Our biggest night was just last week. 900 meals, and we still feel blown away.

Our food is accessible.

We believe that everyone should have access to healthy, delicious food. That's why we offer $4 meals and share free meals with whoever would like. We also use locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible and offer vegan and gluten-free options.

We're more than just a restaurant.

We're a community eatery. We believe that food brings people together and that everyone should have access to healthy, delicious meals. That's why we offer $4 meals and share free meals with whoever would like. We also host events and workshops to bring our community together.
